Tour Overview
March 3-10, 2012
Yoga with Laura Burkhart & Pilates with Nicole Meadors March 10-17, 2012 Anusara Yoga with Tara Judelle & Pilates with Nicole Meadors Join us on an exclusive & magical journey to "The Island of the Gods"- Bali, Indonesia. Experience the vast wonders of this exotic island- a combination of authentic eco-chic accommodations, yoga and fitness classes, rich Hindu traditions, exquisite temples, traditional Balinese dance, music and art, and breathtaking natural beauty- from the lush palm trees and rice fields to the endless beaches and surf. Along with the cultural and natural wonders, guests will enjoy relaxing massages, surf lessons, and of course, for those that are interested, fantastic shopping! Guests will also savor the culinary delights that Indonesia has become famous for, all with a healthy twist. While in Bali guests will stay in original antique bungalows perfectly situated overlooking the lush rice fields in the Canggu/Seminyak region, a ten minute walk/bike ride to the beach. Each bungalow has its own rich history and has been completely restored and refurbished with modern amenities and original artifacts and antiques reflecting true Indonesian culture and heritage. Additionally, the property is host to a variety of unique indoor & outdoor spaces, gorgeous gardens and an expansive pool. A stay here is truly memorable, as the property is a slice of natural paradise splashed with a gracious staff, rich culture and an unparalleled sense of tranquility. WHAT MAKES BALI SO SPECIAL There is the combination of the friendly people, the natural attractions, the great variety of things to see and do, the year-round pleasant climate, and the absence of security problems. And then there is Bali's special "magic", which is difficult to explain. As soon as you step off the plane you might sense the difference. In the villages you'll notice the quietness and wisdom in old people's faces, and the interest and respect in the young's. Old men sit at the road side caressing their fighting roosters. Beautifully dressed women walk proudly through rice fields and forests carrying offerings on their heads to the next temple. There is the smell of flowers, and in the distance you hear the sound of gamelan music. Gods and spirits have been an important part of Bali's daily life for hundreds of years. Gunung Agung – Bali's holy mountain – is internationally regarded as one of the eight "Chakra" points of the world. This may be more than an coincident. Watch out, the moment you feel the magic of this island, you're addicted for the rest of your life. The following guides will lead the tourLaura Burkhart Laura's creative and intelligently sequenced flow classes are known for being challenging, with a smooth and rhythmic flow. She incorporates strategically selected music organized to create a specific cadence and theme for each class. Laura is conscious about catering to different levels of ability to ensure that all feel welcome and comfortable. Her beginning classes are fun for students new to yoga, helping lay a strong foundation toward a life-long yoga practice. In addition to flow classes, Laura teaches gentle yoga classes that help calm the nerves, settle the mind and encourage students to melt into deep relaxation. Naturally warm and enthusiastic, Laura is attentive and caring to the needs of her students.
Laura started in the yoga industry at the Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York, working in public relations. She later joined The San Francisco Bay Club as the Yoga Marketing Assistant, then teacher, and eventually became the Yoga Director at their prestigious Mind Body Center. Laura now fully dedicates her time to her students, teaching at some of the most esteemed yoga studios in San Francisco. She has been in eight podcasts byYoga Journal, two with Yogaglo and was the June 2010 master class model for Yoga Journal Magazine. Laura's extensive studies, primarily under Shiva Rea and primary mentor Jason Crandell, have helped forge an intuitive, spontaneous and eclectic instruction style. Laura has been fortunate and honored to continue her studies with Jason, from whom she learned the art of smart sequencing and attention to detail. She is also grateful for and inspired by the fluid style taught by Shiva Rea. Nicole Meadors At the age of seven, Nicole Meadors is featured hanging upside down in her father's textbook, LET'S MOVE. Originally from Southern Kentucky, Nicole relocated to New York, where she began her Pilates training. Nicole teaches at West Village Yoga NYC but spends most of her time in Upstate NY where she owns a studio, Pilates Hudson. Recently, she's established a partnership with Vittoria Iraci, organizing wellness retreats at La Montagnola, an agriturismo in Umbria Italy. She also travels with Escape to Shape, and she's grateful to be working in locations like Marrakech, Cartagena, and Bali.
A student of Pilates for fourteen years now, Nicole began her career as a writer and performer. In the early 90's Nicole earned a BFA in Theatre Studies and a BA in English Literature, graduating with Distinction. She taught playwriting and was the Associate Director of Upstate Films, an art house cinema in Rhinebeck NY; she served as Film Program Director at Time & Space Limited in Hudson, NY. Now, Nicole operates her own studio and teaches full time, incorporating bodywork similar to Thai Massage. In her sessions she adheres to a system that nourishes mind, body, and spirit. Tara Judelle Tara Judelle is a certified Anusara Yoga instructor since 2006 who has taught both nationally and internationally. Inspired by the work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen's Body Mind Centering, as well as her in depth studies with Sally Kempton, Carlos Pomeda, and Paul Muller Ortega, Tara uniquely combines the tools of experiential anatomy to discover our movement vocabulary, together with a lucid presentation of the yogic tradition, to lead students on a progressive journey toward the amazing play of perceptual awareness.
