Tour Overview
Spectacular scenery from valleys to open barren land with low birch trees up to the Arctic tundra. We meet the native reindeer herders - the Sámi - in their daily life on their winter pastures. Accommodation the night before and after the tour on Engholm Husky design Lodge.
PRICE INCLUDES ON OVERNIGHT TOURS: All meals starting with supper on first day until breakfast last day in the tour program, (if not otherwise stated in the tour program). All necessary tour equipment, arctic proof clothing for dog mushing, guide and activities as described in the program. Double room at the lodge, (extra charge for single room or own cabin). Dormitory accommodations on the mountain cabins
THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE: Personal equipment, please ask us for a copy of our equipment list. Individual services apart from the group, personal expenses etc. Accident and travel insurance. Bed linen at the lodge (extra charge). Transport to/from Engholm Husky Lodge, if not otherwise stated in the tour program.
TRAVEL INSURANCE All participants of our adventure tours must have insurance, that cover trip cancellation, baggage, and extended medical insurance. This should include emergency evacuation insurance to cover any and all expenses associated with medical evacuation in the unlikely event such a measure be required.
Christel Finne has background from mountain climbing, downhill and cross country skiing, touring with ski sail and pulka. Horse riding guide. Several years full time working guide on overnight tours/expeditions with sled dogs on the Finnmark plateau.

Sven Engholm is 11 time winner of Europe's longest sled dog race, the "Finnmarksløpet - 1000 km". He is a top ten finisher in "Iditarod" - a 1800 km race in Alaska. He is an experienced outdoor guide and has also lead several expeditions to Spitsbergen, Greenland and across Siberia. Thanks to his university studies in natural geography, it is a pleasure for him to explain the many geographical and other natural phenomena's while leading a tour.

Dog sledding wilderness adventure holiday!
Itinerary
Day 1
Program start with dinner. The guide will have the first briefing regarding the tour.
Day 2
The morning is spent provision of snowsuits, boots and other equipment. Organizing the teams of huskies and learning the basics of caring for your team and driving the sleds. The long sled-tour starts directly from the Lodge. . After a steep climb up to the mountain plateau we are mushing over a hilly stretch, crossing lakes, marshes and a stretch of barren land to Gardin mountain cabin.
Day 3
We reach the mountain plateau and tundra, a fascinating landscape where your view is endless. Here the landscape is scanty and windswept. In the evening we will arrive at Mollisjok mountain cabin. It is a "jewel" located right in the middle of nowhere on the plateau.
Day 4
The tour continues southwards on the river and we are passing two remote settlements. The Sámi people that live here get their outcome mainly from fishing. We finish the day at Soussjavre mountain cabin at the other end of a big lake.
Day 5
The area is a important winter pasture for reindeers. Sometimes it is possible to see large reindeer-herds. We end the night at Baeivasgiedde wilderness cabin, which is situated next to the river in a beautiful pine forest. We spend two nights here.
Day 6
This day will be memorable. We do a day trip to a winter settlement for Sámi reindeer herders who pursue their livelihood here on the winter pasture. Usual we may spend the whole day together with them and join their daily life with their reindeers and get insight in their way of living and herding.
Day 7
A long stretch back to Karasjok. We follow the river. If we are lucky, we may see moose, as it usually stays in the valley during wintertime. Hot sauna and a dinner gathered in the warm atmosphere is waiting for us at Engholm Husky Lodge.
Day 8
The program end at breakfast. It's worth considering whether to stay some extra days for interesting activities as lodge guest before and after the tour.

We give unique nature based experiences founded on knowledge and a gentle and sustainable use of the environment and working hard to reduce the environmental footprint. It is important for us to use the environment on it's own terms. We wish to leave as few traces as possible and as far as possible avoid wearing on the environment we enjoy.
We cater for smaller groups. A small group leaves fewer traces and allowing for more interaction between the client and the guide. We avoid assistance from snow mobiles. All equipment is on the dog sleds. We have a proven passion for serving local and organic food and using our business to make significant contributions to the local sami community.
About our Trusted Partner
Engholm's Husky is situated next to Karasjohka river, 6 km outside of Karasjok. We provide sled dog tours/expeditions and accommodation in designed hand made log houses that were built by Sven himself and has a special charm. Sven has made all the interior furnishing and decoration in order to create a unique and personal atmosphere in each house. Our farm consists of 50 highly trained sled dogs for long-distance racing and tours/expeditions. The tours are Extraordinary escapes for the unique minded. Designed to be suitable for experienced mushers and for first-timers. We usually use four to six-dog teams, although this is reviewed to suit individual mushers. Engholm Husky tours/expeditions are ideal winter holidays for those who love wild and unspoilt places and adventure. Most participants are rather adventurous people who relish the chance to learn new skills and like to live life to the fullest.
