Overview
A private safari lodge situated in the western part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, nestled against a well wooded bank of the Sand River, where jackalberry and leadwood trees lend their shade. Its four suites distanced from one another to offer solitude and serenity.
Leadwood Lodge boasts a tactile blend of boldly expressed and contrasted materials – crushed stone, raw cement, dark meranti, rough granite and glass. Soft furnishings provide an inviting counter point to the textures and patinas of the structure. Each suite has a fireplace, sitting room and private pool, surrounded by a wooden deck and granite wall. Spacious en suite bathrooms pamper and delight guests.
Situated in the western sector of the 65 000 hectare Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which adjoins the Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. Leadwood Lodge is located on the confluence of the Sand and Mabrak Rivers in the Exeter Private Game Reserve, with a traversing area of 10 000 hectares.
ACCESS
A 5 hour drive on good roads from Johannesburg to the Newington Gate of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Federal Air operates daily flights from Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) to Ulusaba airstrip, followed by an easy game drive to the lodge. SA Airlink offers daily flights from JIA to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, followed by either a road or air transfer to the lodge.
Dining
Delicious Pan African meals, complimented by the finest South Africa wines, are shared in the open air boma around a blazing fire under a star strewn sky. Romantic candlelit dinners in the African bush, or on the deck of the guest suites, offer more memorable dining experiences.

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Kruger National Park are of the finest Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) game destinations in Africa and you have an excellent chance of spotting the elusive leopard. Exeter is renowned for its world-class rangers and Shangaan trackers who are regarded as among the best in Africa.

Leadwood Lodge consists of just four suites distanced from each other for solitude and serenity. The suites are designed with crushed stone, raw cement, rough granite and glass. Here we consolidated over 17 000 hectares/42 000 acres of degraded land, ravaged by decades of inappropriate cattle, pineapple, sisal and cotton farming, and restored it to its original wilderness state. More than 2 000 head of game were reintroduced, including the Big Five. And in a very short space of time, our neighbours were benefiting directly from Phinda. This was achieved through employment and community development projects implemented - in consultation with the communities - by CC Africa's Rural Investment Fund, now an independent, non-governmental not-for-profit organisation called the andBEYOND Foundation.
