Set back from the beach to ensure privacy, the house is set amid the shade of the mature coconut trees of a former plantation and enjoys 200m of beach-frontage on a completely virgin beach. The sound-track of house is provided by the waves and sea-breeze blowing through the palm fronds.

Completed in 2008 the Coconut House is the latest project of renowned Brazilian architect, Ricardo Salem, who also designed all the furniture for the property as a one off. This symbiosis of architecture, design and functionality has lead to the creation of one of the most effortlessly relaxing beach-houses anywhere leaving guests free to choose the ambience which best suits their mood; the infinity pool and deck with views of the beach and sea; a state of the art barbecue under a shaded pergola; indoor and outdoor dinning areas; a home cinema and indoor and outdoor sitting rooms.

There are five en-suite bedrooms, all with private balconies and air-conditioning and separate dressing areas built plenty of storage space in the built in wardrobes. Suitable for those looking to get away from it all and relax in a remote but extremely luxurious surroundings. Casa Beija Flor works equally well for groups of friends and families with children of all ages. Being set right on the beach and close to a picturesque village with a couple of good restaurants greatly enhance the attraction of this very comfortable beach house.

South America : Brazil

The picturesque village of Canavieras is 2km away and offers abundant fresh fish and seafood, a pretty colonial port of pastel-coloured mansions built during the Cacao boom of the Nineteenth Century and some of the best deep sea fishing (wahoo, tuna and Marlin up to 975lbs) in the Americas off the Royal Charlotte Bank.

Even in Brazil few people have heard of the little coastal village of Canavieras is and of those who have may well know it for the quality of its seafood which is widely admired. The original port that dates from the Nineteenth Century when it was used to ship cacao from this part of Southern Bahia. The brightly painted single story houses that line the waterfront feel like they may have been set up for a film-set and are almost too picture-postcard perfect to be real, in the style of a mini-Havana. Any visitor to Canavieras who has read any of the novels of Jorge Amado will recognise the scene instantly.

Coupled with this strikingly picturesque water-front, dotted with a few good seafood restaurants and bars, is clear, golden-sanded beach that stretches on for kilometres along the length of Atalaia Island that is connected to the mainland by a small hump-backed bridge.

The beach is ideal for beach-combers, kite surfers and surfers learning to catch their first waves and to relax after in a great little beach restaurant, bury your toes into the sand and enjoy a feast of fresh shrimp and grilled snapper washed down with either an icy beer or caipirinha. Off shore lies the Royal Charlotte Bank that offers the chance to experience the finest blue water fishing in South America and we can arrange for deep-sea fishing enthusiasts to trawl for wahoo, dourado, yellow-fin tuna and marlin. Visitors to Casa Beja Flor inevitably feel that they have ‘discovered’ Canavieras, a wonderfully laid-back and unspoilt little town years before it is tainted by international tourism.

Climate and When to Go

Best months are from November to May. The rainy season usually runs from May until September.Getting there The nearest airport is at Ilheus 72 miles served by regular flights from Rio and Sao Paulo and Salvador da Bahia. Transfers from Ilheus to Canavieras will take about an hour and a half and we will arrange for you to be met and driven to the house on arrival. Porto Seguro Airport is further and takes about three hours driving.

Car hire recommended and best arranged in advance through BBHC (the house has a new car that can rented cheaply). Children welcomed. Canavieras is a sleepy small town and there is little by way of nightlife

Casa Beija is fully catered.

Three maids (one lives on the property), a local cook and a gardener from 8am – 5pm, and English speaking host (4 hrs / day) and night watchman.. One maid for evening service. Additionally babysitters and extra maids / evening cover /cooks may be provided for extra cost and paid for locally.
