Overview

Set on the escarpment with panoramic views, the main lodge has 7 rooms – 4 doubles and 3 twins, all with ensuite bathrooms. The celebrated Star Beds – Kiboko and Kioja – each comprising of 2 double star bed sleeping platforms and one large family platform which all have ensuite bathroom facilities and showers.

A separate truly exclusive, self-contained, serviced, private cottage is also available. With two double ensuite bedrooms, it has its own game drive vehicle.

Loisaba House and Cottage offer guests private and exclusive accommodation, they have their own staff, car and guide, as well as access to the main lodge’s facilities including the spa, swimming pool, and tennis court. Additional activities include horse riding, bush walking, game driving, and camel trekking.

In all, nineteen bedrooms are available in this wildlife haven.

Loisaba bestrides the border of Laikipia and Kenya’s rugged Northern Frontier District. Only a few miles from the equator, this private game ranch on 60,000 acres is in a wilderness of remote beauty where the farm management and local Laikipiak Maasai & Samburu community work together to preserve the environment and abundant surrounding wildlife.
The view from Loisaba extends hundreds of miles – to Mount Kenya, the Loldaiga Hills and the Mathews Range. Through Loisaba roam Elephant, Lion and Leopard alongside the endemic northern species that thrive there – Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe.

It is a setting little changed since the Great Rift Valley split Africa in two, creating the dramatic escarpment on which the lodge is built. Luxurious, yet in harmony with its surroundings; full of adventure, yet an oasis of calm.

Loisaba is made for adventure: guests enjoy complete freedom to choose how they spend their time … the only barrier is your own imagination. Trek through the bush with camels, mountain bike down the escarpment, raft the Ewaso Nyiro, horseback ride or drive through the wild canyons of the two great rivers that span this vast area.

The ranch also owns a micro-light and aeroplane so there are no limits to what you choose to do: heli-camp, then surf the remote sand dunes of the Northern Frontier District, rock-climb the soaring pinnacles thrusting up from the valley floor or just play a little tennis and lie by the pool.

A place of deep serenity, Loisaba attracts big game just as it attracts guests: both know they will be safe and well looked after, free to roam unconfined and undisturbed.

The Star Beds – four-poster- on raised platforms provide blissful sleep under the vast African sky with only the stars and sky for a ceiling. Even the spa – where pampering is unrivalled – is sensitively constructed and set apart from the other buildings, so that the eternal drama of the bush unfolds before your eyes.

Quads for Classrooms

Loisaba has always been an adventure playground for grown-ups and now it has even more thrills on offer. By hiring one of the Loisaba Quads for Classrooms, you will not only have an electrifying experience riding a quad bike through the bush but you will also help support our educational trust, one of the key pillars of the wider Loisaba project.

The Loisaba Community Trust has acquired eight Honda TRX 250 4 wheel All Terrain Vehicles; they can be hired out by the hour, for bush breakfasts or for game drives. Exhilarating yet in compliance with safety standards, the quads are a brilliant way to see Loisaba Wilderness and get right up close to the wildlife – more than that, they are tremendously exciting.

Quad bikes allow guests to get off the beaten track where Land Rovers would cause too much environmental damage. With a quad you can explore the ranch at your own pace. We’ve been using quads on the ranch for years and thought it was time to let our guests have a go. It takes just a few minutes to learn how to ride one then, accompanied by one of our professional guides, all 61,000 acres of Loisaba are open for you to explore.

Loisaba quads for classrooms – put the fun back into philanthropy and hire one today.

$100.00 per person per hour

The Loisaba Quads for Classrooms were purchased by a benefactor so all profits go directly into The Loisaba Community Trust. The LCT is a locally registered charity, supported by the US registered Loisaba Community Conservation Foundation (LCCF). Funded by US tax deductible and other donations, the LCCF is dedicated to poverty alleviation and conservation in the surrounding area. One of the key routes to achieving this is to ensure that the traditionally marginalised Laikipiak Maasai and Samburu people are both healthy and educated.

The LCT has already granted 26 scholarships to secondary schools, three to college/university and two to trade school since its inception in 2000. It has built classrooms, paid teacher salaries and provided education supplies for hundreds of children. Go out and have some fun on one of the Loisaba Quads for classrooms: the children of our community will thank you for it.

Our Trusted Partner's Responsible and Sustainable Travel Policy

Cheli & Peacock is committed to developing and promoting sustainable tourism hand-in-hand with beneficial conservation and wildlife management practice. In particular Cheli & Peacock manages all its camps with major attention and detail to eco-friendly systems and protection of the natual environment, working with local communities in order to foster better living conditions for the local people who share the wildlife habitat with the natural fauna and flora of Kenya.

Cheli & Peacock works closely with several of the organisations below in trying to preserve these exceptional wilderness areas for the benefit of future generations.

75% of Kenya’s spectacular wildlife is outside National Parks on private and community land. For 25 years, before “eco-tourism” became a buzzword, Cheli & Peacock has been an innovator and leader in community revenue sharing tourism projects. We believe in high income, low impact tourism, and will work with environmentally responsible lodges and camps.

We continue to lobby for sustainable tourism in Kenya, and actively participate in Wildlife Forums, Mara, Meru, Amboseli, Samburu Management Policy and Kenya Tourism Federation.

In our own lodges and camps we employ and train staff from the local area, do our best to operate environmental “best practice” (solar panels for water heating and inverter power, rubbish disposal, etc), and open up new areas for tourism therefore bringing revenue to struggling conservation areas and marginalized communities. We support local schools at the camps, make a vital contribution to AMREF’s work, and other small community projects.

We know that you, our clients, want to be assured that your participation on a Cheli & Peacock safari benefits the communities you visit and that the eco-systems you enjoy are that much more sustainable as a result of your visit. We give you that assurance.

About our Trusted Partner

Cheli & Peacock Ltd is owned and operated by Stefano Cheli and Liz Peacock.  The company started in 1985, and have been running it hands-on ever since.

Both safari guides and having grown up in Kenya, Liz & Stefano created the business to share safari in the wilderness with others.  From 1985 Cheli & Peacock operated lavish private tented safaris with professional guides, often Stefano or Liz themselves.  Camps were sent ahead and pitched on virgin sites, so when clients arrived the fire was going and the gin and tonics ready.  The camps became more elaborate over the years from a Landrover and trailer for 6 people in the early days, to two 6ton lorries for 6 people!  The company soon developed a reputation for professional service, outstanding food, attention to detail and that well worn phrase – “holidays of a lifetime”.

Liz & Stefano were operating “eco-tourism” before it was a buzzword; employing from the local communities and supporting both National Reserves and community conservation initiatives.

In 1994 Stefano designed and built Tortilis Camp in Amboseli, a unique concept at the time – beautifully designed, small, upmarket, gourmet fresh food, and of course outstanding guides. Offering walking, sundowners, bush breakfasts – all the added extras that Stefano and Liz consider essential to a complete safari experience. The project won the “BA Tourism for Tomorrow Award” a year after opening.

In 1999 Stefano designed and built Elsa’s Kopje lodge in Meru National Park – still considered a flagship in luxurious safari accommodation. Following on came Joys Camp in Shaba National Reserve (2005) a stylish camp in the exquisite arid country bordering Samburu; and Elephant Pepper Camp in the Masai Mara. Elephant Pepper retains the Cheli & Peacock roots of private tented safari. Only 8 tents, it still operates in the old fashioned safari style of yester year.

Today, Cheli & Peacock has grown to become the leading ground handler in Kenya; continuing to operate upmarket bespoke safaris for clients that want the “real safari” experience.  Today, and throughout more than 20 years of operation, Liz & Stefano’s priorities have always been to:

• Operate the best safari for the client – taking into account their interests, ages, celebrations; so that they get the very best out of their safari experience.
• Responsibility and professionalism - so that attention to detail, compulsory Flying Doctors membership, vetted destinations and subcontractors, and responsible eco-tourism are an essential part of the safari planning.  An officer from Cheli & Peacock is always on call, and Liz & Stefano are always available.
• Emphasis on wildlife experience, complete safari experience and guiding - as well as enjoying the most dramatic and romantic bedrooms in the world!

Over 20 years of rapturous client feedback and support from all corners of the globe is testament that bespoke safaris offering the best of the best – is what “holidays of a lifetime” is really about.
