On the far side of the river is Jabaquara Beach which has a few beach bars which make for pleasant place for a cold beer and a snack. The delightful 17th century town of Paraty is just a ten minute walk away.

The main house consists of 3 double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and a study. The kitchen is large and well equipped, the dining room can easily seat 10 and the sitting room is spacious and has plenty of sofas and seating. There is a terrace which extends the length of the house where most meals are served and there are hammocks and big armchairs for lounging on hot days cooled by the breeze and overhead fans.

The sea and a small beach are metres from the house, down some steps from the property and it is good for swimming and kayaking, although the water very shallow at low tide. There are 2 kayaks available to explore the island opposite the house, or for fishing.

The guesthouse consists of a large air-conditioned bedroom with its own bathroom. There is also a sitting room with a double sofa bed, 2nd bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. The guest house’s terrace leads out onto the pool area. The pool is 15 x 6 metres.

The caretakers have their own house on the property, tucked into the hillside. Our concierge who speaks perfect English will also be at your disposal to arrange activities, excursions etc for up to 4 hours per day.Ideal for anyone looking to experience the authentic flavour of Brazil without compromising on creature comforts or modern conveniences.

The house works equally well for groups of friends and for families and the large protected garden and swimming pool lends itself to families with children of all ages. Note: Parents should be aware that the swimming pool is not closed off from the house and there is a drop from the garden to the small beach 1.5m below.

Paraty is a lovely 17th century town that has been perfectly preserved thanks to a long period of isolation and declared a National Historical Monument in 1966 which has further safeguarded its preservation. The winding, narrow streets paved with giant cobblestones, were designed to protect the town from pirate raids. Small fishermen’s cottages sit side-by-side with impressive merchants mansions, all white stucco with brightly coloured shutters and doors. Vehicles are banned from the old town and the wealth of art galleries, shops and restaurants are best explored on foot.

The old town today buzzes with a good selection of unpretentious bars and restaurants, small shops and galleries that offer of good options to eat out in the evening.

Climate and When to Go

Best months are from March to October where there is less rain, although the peak season is still Dec/Jan/Feb, the summer, when it is both hotter and wetter. The increasingly well known literary festival, FLIP, takes place in July.

Getting There

Paraty is located on the coast almost equidistant between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo both of which can be reached in 3.5 – 4 hours by road. The nearest airports are at Rio de Janeiro (236km) and Sao Paulo (330km). Paraty also has a landing strip big enough to accommodate light aircraft and small jets.

Rental Conditions and Recommendations

Car hire recommended, but not essential. Private transfers to and from the house from Rio or Sao Paulo will be provided upon request for extra charge. A boat trip to explore the bay and its many hidden beaches and little islands is a must on one day. Rentals of less than a week are possible in the Low Season (from 1 March – 15 December). Casarao Amarelo is also available to hold wedding and other events for around 100 guests.
