Overview
The main lodge buildings are staggered between the natural rock formations of the Waterberg Mountains. Entering through the impressive timber doors of the stone and thatch central lounge and dining room, the deep windows reveal their commanding views of the tree-clad Makweti Gorge and the gently undulating landscape beyond. The interior design and lodge atmosphere are complimentary, offering a warm and relaxed retreat. Antique African artefacts, tribal textiles and friendly staff make a stay here truly restorative.
The five secluded suites, accommodating a maximum of ten guests at any one time, are furnished with polished timber and crisp linens. Directors’ chairs on a private deck, bubble-filled baths, invigorating outdoor showers and plump pillows positively encourage relaxation during a stay. Or venture just a little further to the small but refreshing plunge pool, library collection and waterhole sundeck.
Makweti is located in the Welgevonden, approximately 3 hours drive north west of Johannesburg.

Enjoyed around the vast, formal table, in the boma, or buy candlelight under the stars, Makweti’s cuisine combines the rich spices of the ancient trade routes with modern style. Activities
Twice daily safaris in open vehicles or on foot combine a landscape experience with game viewing of an enviable diversity with over 16 species of antelope, plains game, lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, wild dog and the rare brown hyena.
