Membership & Associations

Nature & Kind Travel is a member of the following travel industry associations:

The International Ecotourism Society

The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ecotourism. Founded in 1990, TIES has been in the forefront of the development of ecotourism, providing guidelines and standards, training, technical assistance, research and publications. TIES' global network of ecotourism professionals and travelers is leading the efforts to make tourism a viable tool for conservation, protection of bio-cultural diversity, and sustainable community development.

We also recognise the commitment and values of a number of adventure and experiential travel industry associations, as well support a select number of organisations committed to encouraging greater levels of environmentally and social responsibly best practise in the travel industry including:

The Adventure Travel Trade Association

The ATTA is actually about you, the member. Without your support and involvement, the ATTA will not succeed or even exist. The ATTA will work tirelessly to serve the industry both in the short and the long term. In the short term, we’ll work to bring you opportunities that drive new customers, lower your costs and increase your return on the existing business activities you pursue. In the long term, we’ll help implement industry standards, attack the thorny insurance issues, tackle initiatives that get adventure travel in front of the mainstream culture and work to get big corporations who should be investing in this industry educated about who the adventure traveler is. We’ll work to help build up a library of valuable research, work to define the industry or at least sections of it, and help bring unity to this exciting sector.

Sustainable Travel International

Founded in 2002, Sustainable Travel International (STI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to providing education and outreach services that help travelers, travel providers and related organizations support environmental conservation and protect cultural heritage while promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic development.

Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers. From large multinational corporations to small, community-based cooperatives, we involve businesses and consumers worldwide in our efforts to bring responsibly produced goods and services to a global marketplace where the demand for sustainability is growing steadily.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme, has been running since 1997 and with over 1400 members across the whole of the UK, it is the largest and most established scheme of its type in the World. In Scotland the GTBS was developed in partnership with VisitScotland and it is recognized by UK national and regional government as a crucial part of its drive towards sustainability. Our aim is to build on this strong position and ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of sustainable tourism in the future.

Considerate Hoteliers

Created in 1991 in Westminster with a founder membership of London’s flagship hotels, Considerate Hotels is one of the first hotel associations worldwide to impart the message that care for the environment and social responsibility should form a major part of a responsible hotelier’s agenda.

In 1999, membership was made available to hotels in Greater London, and in 2003 to the United Kingdom. Considerate Hotels is an association run by hoteliers, for hoteliers, with a belief that sound business practices, common sense and social responsibility can bring about change for the good whilst still impacting positively on the bottom line.

Always in the vanguard of the green debate, imparting advice and information to like-minded hotel companies and individuals, the association continues to go from strength to strength, gathering and networking with fellow hoteliers and setting the examples for others to follow.
