Wolwedans - Company Overview

Wolwedans nestles into the dunes and is set against a backdrop of extraordinary natural beauty. Located in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve, our portfolio of camps provides the perfect base from which to explore vast stretches of awe-inspiring and undisturbed nature.

Each camp is designed with our guest’s individual needs at heart. For your home at Wolwedans you have a choice of the rustic, but unique comfort of the Dune Camp, the more elaborate Dunes Lodge and Mountain View Suite, the quietly secluded Private Camp or our latest gem, Boulders Camp, secretly tucked away amidst the grandeur of large granite rocks. No matter where you opt to stay, warmth and personalized service - embraced by a commitment to care for guest and nature alike - are our hallmarks.

Wolwedans is not a dune hotel or a one night stop over destination, which can be ticked off en-route to the next tourist hot-spot. It is a place to arrive, to be, to learn and unwind, whilst being looked after by a friendly and involved local team. Wolwedans provides an honest, relaxed and down-to-earth atmosphere, free of ‘wannabe’ fanciness and pretence.

You will marvel at your exclusive chance to get up close and personal with nature... in the absence of five-star city luxury, marble bathrooms and air-conditioned rooms. A liberating thought. Wolwedans provides an intriguing window for you to experience the desert’s elusive grandeur and breathtaking beauty. You have to bear in mind, however, that there are moments when the elements remind us of our human insignificance ... for as much as the desert kindles your spirits, it can also be harsh and unforgiving.

If you are an open-minded and nature-loving individual in search of a distinctive desert experience far off the beaten track, Wolwedans is for you.

Nature & Kind Factor

Wolwedans is more than just a collection of camps – it’s ethos lies in setting an example in responsible tourism, the empowerment of its employees and its commitment to the conservation of NamibRand Nature Reserve (park fees alone, collected on behalf of the nature reserve exceeded NAD 1 million in 2007).

For the time being, there are no plans for any new camps at Wolwedans. It was decided that while the opportunity for development was huge, we would cap tourism development, and have committed to allowing 1000 hectares of nature for every bed at Wolwedans. To maintain growth, the time has come to scout for opportunities outside of the Reserve.

One of these projects that got off the ground in 2006 is the Namibian Institute of Culinary Education (nice) situated in Windhoek. Offering a first class restaurant and stylish bar, the Institute is a ‘living classroom’ training aspiring chefs to polish their skills and further their careers in the hospitality industry. It has been a very welcome addition to the Windhoek social scene!

Our vision and commitment to Wolwedans, and the development of Namibia and its people still drives us forward today. Wolwedans was not only designed for profit, but mainly to make an important contribution to the local economy, to provide opportunities for those who would otherwise have had none, and to help conserve one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

Terms & Conditions of booking with Wolwedans

All rates are quoted in Namibia Dollars (NAD) per person per night
2. The NamibRand Nature Reserve Park Fee is additional and non commissionable for agents. Park fees are collected by Wolwedans on behalf of
the park. Please note that the park fee will show on invoices separately and in addition to daily rate. Park fees are charged in advance with
the accommodation payment. Park fees are not collected at Wolwedans and must be pre-paid with booking/reservation. Fees could be changed.
2. All prices are inclusive of full board, standard bar/beverages, all activities (except hot-air ballooning) and taxes.
Price excludes NamibRand Nature Reserve Park Fee, imported spirits, vintage wines and special activities( like Ballooning and scenic flights)
3. Dune Camp is a two night package with firm arrival dates every second day. "One-nighters" must hence stay at one of the other camps.
5. Private Camp has 4 beds only. The price varies considerably, pending how many guest book (see above). Activities are normally together with
lodge or camp guests, but accommodation and meals are private. If total privacy on drives and walks is requested too, guests have to book the
'private' version at a surcharge (see rate above). Only cohesive groups are booked into Private Camp.
4. One night at Boulders Camp, a cosy satellite camp 40km south of Wolwedans sleeping 8, and can only be booked in conjunction
with Wolwedans. Boulders has a similar standard as the Dunes Lodge. Boulders can also be booked for 2 and more nights without Wolwedans.
5. Pilots and guides are accommodated at the lodge or camp if space is available. Should both be fully occupied by full-paying guests, guides
and pilots will be accommodated in adequate guest rooms at the farmhouse (village). Should this be the case, guides and pilots would still
join their guests for all meals and activities. Prices quoted above remain, regardless where they eventually stay. If guests/agents insist that
pilots and/or guides stay with them at the camps on a guaranteed basis, they have to pay full price.
6. If guests stay for a third night at the Lodge and Private Camp, such nights are discounted by 50%. The same accounts for any additional night.
