Clayoquot Wilderness Resorts & Spa - Company Overview

Some 30 minutes by boat from Tofino, or 20 miles as the eagle flies, rests a premier eco-safari destination called Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. The resort is open annually from mid May to the end of September only and offers all inclusive adventures of 3, 4 or 7 nights. Please visit our rates page for more information.

Inspired by late 19th century Great Camps, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort promises the perfect pairing of soft adventure and soft beds - a delicious blend of childhood wishes and grown-up dreams.

Situated at the mouth of the Bedwell River, where it spills into a nine-mile-long fjord, an enclave of 20 great white canvas guest tents, massage and treatment tents, dining tents, lounge tents and a massive timber cookhouse peek out shyly from the dense bush. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort offers a discreet paradox of individual pampering, and remote, untamed wilderness.

Nature & Kind Factor

Our acclaimed Environmental Legacy Program has grown alongside our deep understanding of the nature of things, a $3 million, resort-wide, five-year commitment to research, conservation and enhancement is partially funded by resort revenues. Environmental programs ensure that a visit to Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is more than just a vacation of a lifetime-- rather, they support an enduring legacy. A proud member of the BC Sustainable Tourism Collective.

Global Responsibility -- Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is located in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve Area, in one of the best intact examples of temperate rainforest left on Earth.

United Nations Mandated Governance -- The spirit of the Biosphere Reserve governs Resort operations and forms the backbone of all policies and sustainable development. The Resort is committed to exist in Clayoquot Sound in an entirely sensitive and environmentally sustainable manner.

The Resort employs local men and women, and, through various education-based naturalist and recreational offerings, contributes to the enhancement and global understanding of the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve Area.

Self-Sufficiency -- All aspects of Resort operations are low-impact and updated as technology allows. Comprehensive recycling governs food and beverage service, organic gardens reduce commercial dependency, and high efficiency wood furnaces create domestic hot water and heat hot tubs. Toilets compost waste materials into organic matter, and all marine and land adventures are non-intrusive and conservancy-driven.

Enduring Alliances -- Clayoquot Wilderness Resort works hand-in-hand with the Nuu-Chah-Nulth First Nation people, as well as local, regional and federal governments in developing sustainable, environmentally responsible development and environmental enhancement programs that benefit all.

Environmental Legacy Programs at the Resort include Salmon Stream Restoration, Bear Habitat mapping and wildlife studies and First Nations Programs.

Clayoquot prides itself on taking the environmental initiative and continually strives to remain in the top echelon of sustainable properties in the world. Our commitment to a sustainable wilderness property does require guest assistance. We have included a 3% sustainability fee to your vacation package. 1% of this fee will go towards the non-profit BC WTA (British Columbia Wilderness Tourism Association) to assist in environmental stewardship activities which ensure ongoing viability through the protection of the wilderness tourism land base. The remaining 2% is placed within our Environmental Legacy Program which includes habitat restoration, First Nations programs, and wildlife studies in Clayoquot Sound.

Children
We offer a discounted rate to families traveling with children 12 years of age and under, provided children share accommodation with parents/guardians.

The intimate size and remote nature of our Resort allows us to offer adults—only and family specific program dates/weeks. To safeguard the comfort and happiness of all of our resort guests, we ask that children under the age of eight be under the full-time care of a nanny or other such companion. During family weeks—nanny service, camp counselors and children’s programs with supervised activities can be arranged in advance with 60 days prior notice of arrival. Please enquire at the time of reservation. —Thank you

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that all resort guests purchase travel insurance. A short resort season prevents us from making exceptions to our 60-day policy. Should you or your travel agent require referral, we are happy to recommend an underwriter.
